Newest Citizen

Richard J. Watters — Sun, 02/03/2008 - 10:52pm

Newest Citizen (DSC02566.JPG)

It's official! We now have another US Citizen. Last Tuesday Yesenia took her oath of Citizenship to complete the last step in becoming a naturalized US Citizen. We spent the afternoon at the Arlington Convention Center. After the acknowledgment of the candidates, everyone took the Oath. Then, there was a greeting from the President and a great keynote speaker.

To celebrate, we had and earlier dinner at Bravo. I would highly recommend it then next time you are in the Arlington area.

iPhone

Richard J. Watters — Thu, 09/06/2007 - 6:44pm

iPhone

Isn't it a little early to be dropping the price of your new flagship device? I'm sure most of you have heard by now that Apple has reduced the price of their ultimate phone/pda by as much as 33% - and this only 2 months after the much hyped launch. Does that mean they over-priced it to begin with??

I was so shocked to see this that I just had to add my 2-cents. I must admit that the phone looks a little better now with a $400 price tag instead of a $600 one, but my $260 Linux phone still has the same functionality at a fraction of the cost.

Tomorrow, Yesenia starts Graduate School! She is going back to UT Arlington to chase her dream of having a Masters of Social Work. Many congratulations to her for being accepted in the program, and I wish her the best of luck. It will be an adjustment as she gets used to going to school and work during the next few weeks.

Wishing you all the best (and I've got your back)!

-your loving husband

Guess what time it is ...

Richard J. Watters — Sun, 08/26/2007 - 9:37pm

El Paso Rattlers

It's Football season! And that also means Fantasy Football. This will be my first season to play, and I'm already hooked on it. We had our draft on Saturday, and ten of us went to a friend's house for food, drinks, and chastising! Six couldn't make it, and four of those were logged in by the internet. With the draft room chat, it's like they were there with us. From setup to the time I left, it was about 5 hours. 2-1/2 was for the draft.

One Year in the new house

Richard J. Watters — Wed, 05/30/2007 - 1:52pm

moving day

This month, Yesenia and I celebrated one year in our new home. We can't beleive that it's already been one year. Time sure flies! Building the "home" after the house takes even longer than the original construction (see the animation below). We are still working away on interior and exterior decorations. I'm sure it will be a constant process for years to come...

During the construction, I kept a blog of updates on the house. If you want to look back at those, you can look here.

Visit to Austin

Richard J. Watters — Mon, 05/07/2007 - 12:24pm

Austin Brunch

This past weekend, Yesenia and I went to Austin to visit Wayne and Peter. While we were there, we also stopped in to visit some friends of Yesenia's that we haven't seen in a couple years. We had a really great time with Wayne and Peter.

April Snow

Richard J. Watters — Sat, 04/07/2007 - 6:30pm

April Snow

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the last time it snowed in North Texas during the spring was April 8, 1938.

Today, we had a great show of a pretty heavy snow. There were a lot of fat snowflakes falling, but none of them stuck to the ground. The ground temperature was pretty warm, but the air all day was right at freezing. We loved it!

Paul and the Wheelchair Mav's come back to town

Richard J. Watters — Thu, 03/15/2007 - 9:38pm

Dinner after the Mavs Game

Last weekend, the Wheelchair Mavericks came back to Dallas to play in a weekend tournament. Yesenia and I got to see Paul and the Mav's over-power Canada on Saturday afternoon. It was our first full-on game to see (we've seen Paul practice before), and it was just as exciting as we expected. We were really impressed with how aggressive the game is, and what a tremendous amount of talent each player has.

Checkout a video clip of the game.

After the game, we joined some of the players and the coach for a true Texas dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse. Thanks for letting us crash your dinner!

Bowling for Charity (and a good time)

Richard J. Watters — Thu, 03/15/2007 - 8:24pm

The Purple Balloon Foundation Bowl-a-thon

A couple weekends ago, Yesenia and I went bowling with a group of her coworkers from Children's Medical Center. If just bowling wasn't good enough, we were also helping to support a great charity. The Purple Balloon Foundation hosted a bowl-a-thon for the organizations they support throughout the year. This was an opportunity for the different organizations supported through the year by The Purple Balloon Foundation to help them raise money.

We had a great time! Bowling is either really fun, or really bad - it's totally dependent on the group you are with. So, for us, it was a blast - complete with party hats! I also enjoyed hanging out with the CMC group!
